SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT TITLE: Awareness of the diseases of dirty hands, in this case « Coronavirus disease ».

  • A health emergency of international concern is a critical public health situation of concern to all nations because of the risk of the widespread spread of any disease.
  • Concerted and coordinated action is a response to such a situation.
  • This serious, sudden, unusual or unexpected situation has repercussions on public health worldwide and on the environment as a whole.
  • Provide any solution to the health problem of a target population or of humanity as a whole, in connection with a pandemic, in this case « the Coronavirus disease »; for us NGDO, it is showing our dedication and accomplishing one of our goals.
  • To achieve our goal, the question of funding arises; that is why we are called to bring together all the necessary conditions for our actions on the ground to be successful.
  • Thereupon, efforts must be combined to eradicate the Coronavirus pandemic, for its consequences are dire; and raise the awareness of the target population so that they are able to protect themselves and their environment in a sustainable and responsible manner.
  • This development project is entitled: « Raising awareness about diseases of dirty hands, in this case Coronavirus disease ».
  • Indeed, the goals pursued in this project are to:
  •  Repel any case of dirty hand disease or epidemic or pandemic, in this case Coronavirus disease;
  • Enhance rural and peri-urban areas through hygienic monitoring;
  •  Improve living conditions and enjoyment of the ripple effects;
  •  Appropriate hygienic practices to grassroots populations with know-how and interpersonal skills in order to achieve development and certain follow-up.
  • All together as one man must help the country take off from the long besieged socio-economic and health crisis, by:
  •  Safeguarding the general interest;
  •  Satisfying community aspirations;
  •  Reducing inequalities between urban populations and those in rural and peri-urban areas.
  • The objectives pursued are:
  •  Improve the living conditions of selected populations;
  •  Increase the possibility of informing the selected and trained population about any disease of dirty hands, in this case Coronavirus disease; Safeguard Bring long-term socio-economic and health development;
  • Appropriate techniques and prevention practices regarding any disease of dirty hands, in this case Coronavirus disease;
  •  Reduce the development gap between cities, peri-urban and rural areas;
  •  Protect yourself and others from the disease of dirty hands, in a responsible and sustainable manner;
  •  Significantly reduce rural exodus.
  • Apart from the development of the already constituted project, the actual realization of a complete activity will be done at least in one quarter, renewable in the event that the epidemic or pandemic or any other undesirable case could develop.

Indeed, we started from an observation according to which a huge number of the peri-urban and rural population in our city-province (Kinshasa) do not benefit from adequate hygienic conditions; but are exposed to the multiple probabilities of contagion and / or infection in their home and sometimes even work environments, which are essential for the development of this population, by reducing the existing gap between them and those who live in the center city.

We members of the NGDO, as humanists and witnesses to changes in our living space, residing in the Democratic Republic of Congo and facing precarious conditions; and concerned about the precarious living conditions of our loved ones and whose causes are multiple, deserve a beginning of response through which necessarily passes an awareness and a creative genius of the human being.

Therefore, we are convinced that humanism rests on the foundation of solidarity respectful of human rights and that indifference to this leads to collective chaos.

              Within the framework of the objectives assigned to our mission, as NGDO, in our health part in these terms: « To sensitize the populations against the danger of diseases called dirty hands and others », COMMUNITY ACTIONS FOR THE SAFEGUARD AND PROTECTION OF THE ‘ENVIRONMENT « ACSPE – NGDO » provides information and advice from WHO on the measures to be taken to protect health and prevent the spread of this outbreak.

The current outbreak of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was first reported in WUHAN, China on December 31, 2019.

This contagious disease which attacks a large number of people at the same time is certainly a new epidemic.

It is also an infectious disease that affects almost everyone in a region and sometimes even around the world. We therefore call it « Pandemic ».

              The Coronavirus is a new virus that causes flu-like symptoms. Data from China show that it can affect many people and can lead to death in severe cases. So this is our main concern; the critical part of preparation is rapid detection including the ability of laboratories to cope. Next, you have to ensure the isolation capacity.

              As a member of the NGDO « ACSPE », in collaboration with partners, we must mobilize within the target community, by taking the appropriate preventive measures.

Even though the incidence of the disease is low, the African continent should prepare to avoid the worst; first, avoiding close contact with a person with flu-like symptoms is a primary necessity.

In fact, there are seven (07) steps to reduce the risk of infection compared to prevention against Coronavirus:

1. Regular hand washing with soap;

2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth;

3. Observe basic hygiene rules and avoid unnecessary contact with wild or farm animals;

4. Avoid contact with people showing flu-like symptoms;

5. Stop the spread of germs;6. Take precautions when traveling;

7. See a doctor promptly if you have flu-like symptoms.

« Everyone must participate in the response against this disease ».

              This is why, in a speech to the Nation in March 2020, President Félix TSHISEKEDI announced a series of measures put in place to deal with the epidemic of Coronavirus which is hitting the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among which, in terms of international, it was decided to suspend all flights from high-risk countries and transit countries. Only planes and cargo ships and other cargo means will be allowed to land throughout the DRC and all their personnel will be subject to screening. And internally, several measures have been taken, namely:

• Formal ban on any Gathering of more than 20 people in the public place, outside the family home;

• Closure of schools, universities and higher institutes;

• Suspension of all worship;

• Suspension of sports activities;

• Ban on the opening of nightclubs, bars, cafes and restaurants;

• Prohibition to organize bereavements in rooms. The remains will be taken from the morgue to the place of burial.

However, all these measures have been lifted to date because there has been a significant decrease in cases of COVID 19 contamination.

             Speaking of the coronavirus, Covid-19 is a new virus that is present in animals and in humans.

It is contagious and easy to spread if we do not follow preventive measures.

          This virus is large with a cell diameter of 400 to 500 microns, so any mask prevents its entry. It does not move in the air, but on the ground, so it is not transmitted through the air.

             On a metal surface it will live for 12 hours, so washing your hands with soap and water will do.

On a tissue he will live for 9 hours, so washing the clothes or exposing them to the sun for at least two hours he is killed.

It lives on the hands for 10 minutes, so just apply the alcohol hand sanitizer for prevention.

It is also important to drink hot water and sun exposure to strengthen the immune system.

Stay away from ice cream and cold foods is necessary.

Gargling with hot water and salt neutralizes the tonsils and prevents them from leaking into the lungs, but it is primarily a preventative, not a cure.

Following these instructions is sufficient to prevent the virus from reaching you.

               It is spread from person to person through respiratory droplets when a person coughs or sneezes or indirectly by touching a contaminated surface that has not been disinfected.

               When a person develops the disease, the following symptoms appear:• Persistent high fever;

• Persistent dry cough;

• Breathing difficulties;

• Nausea;

• Vomiting, etc.

To limit the spread of the virus, the following hygiene measures must be observed:

• Wash your hands with water or hydro-alcoholic gel;

• Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze;

• Consult a health worker;

• Self-quarantine. Indeed, isolating a confirmed case and those who were in contact with a patient is a safety measure to protect one and others;

• Wearing a medical mask combined with hygiene measures can help limit the spread of the Coronavirus;

• When traveling, uncontrolled travelers present a risk. Health checkpoints are installed to identify suspected cases with symptoms of COVID-19.

This is why we thought of the said project which could resolve this thorny health problem by developing technical means which have already proved their effectiveness in certain corners of the world.

Through this project, we want to reduce and eliminate all cases of infection and contagion of any disease, in this case the Coronavirus disease.

It is through science and medicine that we will beat the virus.

Our research efforts are fully mobilized in the fight against COVID-19. The ability to perform tests and the advisability of setting up a digital strategy to identify people who have been in contact with infected people is a salutary measure.

Clearly, and thanks to digital tools, it is a question of thinking about a strategy which, in particular, via geolocation data, would make it possible to halt the progression of the epidemic, and as is already the case in South Korea.

We want to show that this project has a major socio-economic and health impact on urban populations. And compared to contagion and infection, this impact is also felt in rural and peri-urban populations. It is through science and medicine that we will beat this virus.

Our research efforts are fully mobilized in the fight against COVID-19. The ability to perform tests as well as the possibility of setting up a digital strategy to identify people who have been in contact with infected people is a salutary measure.

     In short, everyone will have the same right to protection, treatment and awareness about dirty hand diseases, in this case « Coronavirus disease ». Zero marginalization; thus children, young people and the elderly will be able to enjoy the same right. As a result, through this project we will reduce the health gap between our cities and our rural and peri-urban areas.

     Likewise, we will also avoid the rural exodus by bringing socio-economic and health growth to every inhabitant, without distinction of class. Therefore, the City-Province of Kinshasa will be classified among those which are promoting the socio-economic and health development of the communities.

In the absence of this Project, the population will remain in precarious living conditions and the uncertainty of a better tomorrow given the contagion and infection that will likely be present at any time. The beneficiaries of the Project are, as the case may be:

• The target population of the selected surrounding environment or the local community in the City-Province of Kinshasa;

• The Province will enjoy the socio-economic and health development of local communities and the increased protection of our daily environments.

 The expected results are:

• Achieving sustainable development;

• Appropriateness of protection techniques and information is proven;

• The reduction of rural exodus;

• Improving the daily life of the population;

• The initiation of integral development and the modernization of the socio-economic and health system.

      Moreover, we plan to carry out this socio-economic and health project, having an impact on all human populations, in order to avoid any form of chaos that could settle in our societies.

Thereupon, a serious, sudden, unusual or unexpected situation which has repercussions on public health, beyond the national borders of an affected state, demands joint and immediate action by nations.

By carrying out this project, we will create a modern lifestyle for an integrated and participatory sustainable development in the City-Province of Kinshasa.

        In the absence of such a Project, the living conditions of the population will always be precarious and the next day will remain uncertain given the contagion and infection that will still be present.

Despite the drop in the number of cases contaminated with COVID 19 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since June 2020, vigilance, popularization, protection and care of patients with coronavirus remain in order to avoid the resurgence of infected cases and loss of life from COVID 19; because no vaccine or adequate treatment exists so far. Hence the need for a project on Awareness of Dirty Hand Diseases, in this case Coronavirus disease”.
